The sustainability -oriented Freiburg mail -order raccoon has announced the reduction of 70 of the currently over 220 jobs as part of its renovation process. The aim of the measure is to economically stabilize the company through slimmer structures and to put up with the long -term future -proof, said raccoon on Wednesday.

“This decision was very difficult for us,” emphasizes Managing Director Katharina Hupfer. “We are very aware of the personal hardness for every single person concerned. At the same time, we see ourselves as responsibility to secure the company as a whole – for our customers, our remaining employees and the long -term effectiveness of our mission.”

The employees concerned have already been informed personally. Together with the works council, the management has drawn up a social plan in order to make the effects for the 70 employees as socially acceptable as possible.

The job cuts are part of a more comprehensive restructuring plan. In the future, raccoon wants to concentrate exclusively on online trade and German -speaking countries. In the course of this, the printed catalog and the Dutch online shop are discontinued. The stationary shop in Freiburg is also to be closed in the course of the year. The operational strength is to be bundled and online sales are to be further expanded as the central pillar of the business model, according to the message.

Raccoon has been in a preliminary bankruptcy proceedings since February 28, 2025. This three -month procedure has now been completed. With a decision of May 28, 2025, the Freiburg district court officially opened the bankruptcy proceedings in self -administration.
