‘Quincy Promes must still stay in Dubai: trial against footballer postponed’ | Foreign football

The trial of Quincy Promes in Dubai, which according to Russian media was supposed to take place on Tuesday, has been postponed by a week, according to a well-informed Russian journalist. On his Telegram channel he reports that the judge who would hear Promes’ case ‘could not come to work due to personal circumstances’.

The Public Prosecution Service in Amsterdam says it also reads the messages, but cannot confirm whether they are correct. A spokesperson could not say whether this delay is related to a possible extradition to the Netherlands. The Russian journalist also reports that the lawyers of the 32-year-old Spartak Moscow player are trying to bring the case to court within a few days.

Promes would not be allowed to leave Dubai after a training camp because he was allegedly involved in an accident and then fled. The Public Prosecution Service in Amsterdam was in contact with the United Arab Emirates after his arrest, but did not say whether a request had been made to extradite Promes.

The former Ajax player has been convicted twice by the court in the Netherlands. He received a six-year prison sentence for involvement in the import of 1,350 kilos of cocaine. He also received a year and a half in prison for a stabbing at a party in which a cousin was the victim. Promes has appealed against the two rulings.

The court issued a detention order in both cases. The Public Prosecution Service has previously issued an arrest warrant.
