Although Thomas Müller of all people achieved the acclaimed interim compensation, FC Bayern Munich lost the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals against Inter Milan.
Lautaro Martinez scored the lead for the leaders of Serie A (38.) in Munich in Munich (85th), but Davide Frattesi struck again (88.) and thus gave the team of Simone Inzaghi an outstanding starting point for the second leg next Wednesday (16.04.).
Raphael Guerreiro in the starting eleven, Thomas Müller on the bench
Bayern coach Vincent Kompany put on Raphael Guerreo in the starting eleven after the injury-related failure of Jamal Musiala, and Leon Goretzka also moved to the midfield center compared to the Bundesliga victory against Augsburg. Thomas Müller, whose Bayern party has been official in summer since the weekend, was on the bench.
Immediately from the start, the Kompany team tried to put the opponent under pressure on this Tuesday evening, despite the injury-related failures. In the 6th minute, the Bavarians approached the opposing goal for the first time: Michael Olise just finished centimeters with a slightly distracted shot from a half -right position at the bottom left of the post. After a quarter of an hour, Harry Kane came centrally in the penalty area to the header from the right to the header, but could not put enough pressure on the ball to posing serious problems.
Kane only hits the post – Lautaro Martinez beautiful in the goal
In the 20th minute after a nice steep pass into the interface of the defense chain, Guerreiro could not have scored 1-0 from half -right, but could not avoid the ball with his weaker right foot and therefore failed due to summer. Five minutes later it would have had to be 1-0, but Kane hit the left in the penalty area after Olise Pass completely free-standing and with a lot of time only the right post. It was a scene that was hardly seen by the Englishman – and it really hurt Bayern, because Inter got better and better access to the game.
The Italians kept the ball more and more in their own ranks and then set needles at lightning speed. Carlos Augusto had a steep pass from Alessandro Bastoni on the left after half an hour, pulled off with his left foot with full risk – and only hit the outside network. In the style of a top team, the leaders of Serie A also used his just upper water before the break: after the outstanding combination over the left side, Marcus Thuram took a wonderful job in the Bavaria penalty room on Martinez, who unsustainably refined this great attack with a tough external shot for Jonas Ubrig. It was the only shot that really came to the Bayern goal in the first round – but that was enough.
Bayern are working back – Inter is compact
At the beginning of the second half, the extremely experienced guests suffocated a possible emerging Munich offensive directly in the germ, led uncompromising duels and always found the gaps in the Munich four chain with surprising fast passes. The 2-0 seemed closer at this point than the equalization, but in the 54th minute by a hard shot on the short corner by Martinez was not surprising.
However, the Bavarians then gradually worked their way back into the game, playing around the sixteen of the now extremely low and after a good hour by a somewhat too high header from Josip Stanisic came back to a passable opportunity. Shortly afterwards, a beautiful volley shot from Guerreiro from the edge of the penalty area also stroked a few centimeters over the crossbar. It was now a game of patience against a well-organized blue and black defensive network, but in which every little inaccuracy in the passing game also meant the ball loss and an impending counterattack.
Müller comes in and hits, but the cheers only last briefly
In the 74th minute, the Munich Arena drew hope again when Müller was substituted together with Sacha Boey and Serge Gnabry. The change heralded the final phase in which Bayern started with a warped Kane shot (79th). And who else, as that of the Müller, could have creeped up after a cane flank from the left side on the long post? The veteran shot the 1-1 in the 85th minute with deafening cheers.
But shortly afterwards, the Munich arena fell into shock rigid – the strong Carlos Augusto found to the left in the middle of Frattesi after sprint, which shot out of full run (88.). The Bavarians then had more chances afterwards, but in the end the more ripped off – and somewhat happier team won.
Inters Sommer: “We had to endure a lot”
“We have now played the first half, the first leg. Of course we imagined it differently, but we know that there is still a lot in it”said Müller after the game with the rights holder “Amazon Prime”. The scorer mainly criticized the exploitation of opportunities, because solutions had found his team against this strong opponent. “We did a lot well, we were efficient in front of the goal and defended well”analyzed Inters strong goalkeeper Sommer and added: “We had to endure a lot in the second half.”
