The former European table tennis champion Dang Qiu celebrated a surprising success against the Chinese world rankings Lin Shidong.
At the WTT tournament in Yokohama in Japanese, the 28-year-old beat the favorite in the round of 16: 2. In the fourth direct duel it was the first victory for Qiu, number 13 in the world.
“The game against Lin went very well. I am in a good shape and feel in good shape here in Yokohama,” said the ex-European champion. Now he is looking forward to the quarter -finals against Kanak Jha (USA), who will be his teammate at Borussia Düsseldorf in the coming season.
Qiu is the last remaining German participant in the tournament, which is endowed with $ 500,000. Benedikt Duda as well as Sabine Winter and Ying Han, the world ranking list, each failed at their opening hurdle.
