From Sunday, August 24, bus carrier Qbuzz will switch from the summer vacation service scheme to a renewed, regular timetable. As a result, several bus lines will run more often, sometimes even more often than before the summer. Also change the departure times of some bus lines. The OV agency Groningen Drenthe reports this.
For example, line 4 runs between Roden and the Groningen district of Beijum every ten minutes in the rush hour. This bus line, which also passes the main station in Groningen, also gets extra journeys on Saturday and Sunday evening.
With this, Qbuzz responds to the need of entertainment public and returning students. Qbuzz also makes these adjustments on other lines in Groningen.
All adjustments are visible in the Qbuzz travel planner on the website of the carrier. According to a spokesperson for the public transport agency, there will soon be no less buses on any line than before the summer.
In the night from Saturday to Sunday, an extra night bus runs between Groningen and Assen on a trial. This new line, night bus 410, runs every hour via Vries. Together with night bus 409 there is a bus between Groningen and Assen almost every half hour at night.
In May, in 2026 the public transport agency announced that it had to save around 7 million euros on the budget for regional bus transport. This is because the government is cutting subsidies for the transport of students. Because there is no separate public transport for students, the cutback of 225 million euros is at the expense of the entire public transport network and all travelers.
Nevertheless, the company now broadens the timetable on some points. According to the OV agency, this can be done by tighter and removing nearly 700,000 euros from your own piggy bank.
The new timetable will remain in force until the summer of next year. “Normally our timetables run from December to December,” the spokesperson explains. “But this year it is different, because the main station in Groningen will be renovated next summer. Then the bus stops will move from the north side to the south side of the station.”
“Once those changes have been made, we prepare a new timetable for the provinces of Drenthe and Groningen,” he concludes.
