The Belgian second division soccer team KAS Eupen is being fully taken over by the Qatari investment group Qatar Sports Investments (QSI).

The German-speaking club announced this on Tuesday. Accordingly, the state-affiliated investment company, which is also the owner of Champions League winner Paris Saint-Germain, will assume “immediate responsibility for sporting matters,” according to a club statement.

Eupen has been under the control and influence of Qatar since 2012, and the Aspire Academy wanted to use the club as a springboard for young talent. However, the project has now “reached its natural end,” the club said: “Against this background, we are pleased to announce that Aspire and Qatar Sports Investments have signed a letter of intent for the full takeover of the club.”

The club was relegated from the Belgian first league in 2024, and Eupen is currently in seventh place in the Challenger Pro League. The Qataris have owned France’s top club Paris Saint-Germain since 2011, and President Nasser Al-Khelaifi is also chairman of Qatar Sports Investments.
