Qatar Sports Investments (QSI) has a new club in its portfolio. The state-backed investor group from Qatar, which has included Paris Saint-Germain since 2011, took over KAS Eupen from Belgium on Tuesday.

“Today is an important moment in the history of our club,” said Eupen in a statement. The previous owner Aspire, who also comes from Qatar and has had majority rights to the second division club since 2012, came to the conclusion after a “longer internal evaluation” that the project had reached “its natural end”. “During this time, the club has developed enormously in terms of its structures, its professionalism, its promotion of young talent and its connection to the community.”

Eupen was relegated in 2024 after eight years in the Jupiler Pro League after coach Florian Kohfeldt handed the club in 14th place to Kristoffer Andersen in March. Eupen is currently seventh in the Challenger Pro League. The takeover by QSI and President Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, who is also chairman of Paris Saint-Germain, had been indicated in recent weeks. At the end of October, Luís Campos, PSG’s sporting advisor, sat in the stands at an Eupen home game. In addition to PSG, the investor group’s portfolio has included the Portuguese club SC Braga since 2022.

“Qatar Sports Investments is proud to assume ownership of KAS Eupen and contribute to the development of football in Belgium. Drawing on its global expertise and passion for football, QSI aims to build a modern, competitive football and business structure that will bring pride to KAS Eupen fans and build on the club’s outstanding historical legacy. We warmly welcome a fantastic club and a great community into our family,” said Al-Khelaifi.
