Qatar critic Lise Klaveness has been denied a flight to the controversial host country of the World Cup. The president of the Norwegian Football Association was turned away at the gate on Sunday. According to Klaveness, the reason for this was that she was unable to produce the negative corona test required for the trip.

However, Klaveness emphasized on Norwegian radio that she was not informed of this requirement in advance. Other delegations from UEFA member associations also had problems because of this. The officials will meet representatives of the World Cup OC and the Qatari government on Monday to discuss the local human rights situation.

Klaveness now wants to take part in the talks digitally and plans to follow up later. “Even if it’s only (still) one day, it’s about showing presence,” said the 41-year-old. It was “frustrating” that she was initially denied the flight.
