The Swiss Cup game between FC Aarau and the Young Boys Bern (1-0) was overshadowed by violent riots. During the game in the Brügglifeld stadium, five guest fans had suffered fire injuries at their own pyro show. This emerges from a press release from the Aargau cantonal police.

The injured were brought to various hospitals for treatment. Two of them were released from the hospital on Saturday evening, the condition of the others was stable.

Incidents also in the city and on the train

After the final whistle there were riot in the city. According to the police, sometimes hooded YB fans moved to the train station and had attacked the police with gravel stones and construction site material, among other things. The police used rubber red and pepper spray. A policeman was slightly injured. In the station building, the rioters had also torn fire extinguishers out of the anchors and thrown stones into window panes. In addition, two police vehicles were severely damaged.

Even the return trip to Bern on the train was not without incidents. So the train came to a standstill for a long time because a fan had pulled the emergency brake.

According to the press release, the cantonal police started investigations and tried to identify as many rioters as possible.
