Antonio Rüdiger’s uncontrollability in the Spanish Cup final had caused heated discussions. Now it is clear how long Rüdiger Real Madrid will be missing.
The punishment for the German international Antonio Rüdiger after his severe freak out in the Spanish cup final against FC Barcelona has been determined: The disciplinary commission of the Spanish Football Association has blocked the Real Madrid defender for six games. The association announced this on Tuesday evening.
With five remaining league games in the current season, the lock means the early end of the season for the currently injured Rüdiger, who will then also miss the start of the coming season. The Spanish set of rules would even have made a lock of twelve games possible.
In the defeat in the Clásico final of the Copa del Rey against FC Barcelona (2: 3 NV) Last Saturday, the 32-year-old had thrown an object towards referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea from the replacement bench, saw the red card and then insulted the impartial in German. Several teammates and real representatives could only hold back with difficulty not to attack Bengoetxea.
On Sunday, Rüdiger apologized for his behavior in a social media post, but calls in Germany after a sanctioning by the DFB, in particular due to a preliminary non-nomination for the national team, were sound. DFB sports director Rudi Völler said Rüdiger in a statement, but did not mention a possible lock. T-online columnist Stefan Effenberg then criticized Völler and the association sharply called the behavior of the DFB “shameful” (you can read more about this here).
