PSV is quickly finished with FC Emmen at the start of the season and wins with large numbers

PSV easily won against FC Emmen. In the first game of the new season, the Eindhoven team already had a comfortable lead at half-time: 3-0. After 90 minutes there was finally a 4-1 victory on the scoreboard. The important return against AS Monaco awaits PSV on Tuesday.

At PSV, no one was allowed to think about the home match against AS Monaco on Tuesday. First they had to win again against FC Emmen. But already at halftime, we could see the return against the Monegasques.

Without playing too big it was already 3-0 after 45 minutes of football in the Philips Stadium. Johan Bakayoko’s 1-0 was a razor-sharp counter that was set up by star Xavi Simons.

The second goal was a very comical one. Three FC Emmen players attempt a goal at their own goal during a free kick. It is ultimately Maikel Kieftenbeld who works the ball over the goal line via his own feet. The 3-0 was a goal by Cody Gakpo who surprised the Emmen goalie in the short corner.

Players rest
Last Tuesday it was still visible that the match for the Johan Cruijff Scale played a role. In the sweltering Monaco, the pipe was empty at the end of the race. The people of Eindhoven had tried to move the supercup because of the short rest period. Again, a short rest period awaits in the run-up to the match against AS Monaco. But because of the quick 3-0 lead, PSV did not have to go as far this time.

At halftime, Ruud van Nistelrooij already exchanged Phillipp Max and Joey Veerman. They were replaced by youngsters Richard Ledezma and Frederik Oppegard. An ideal scenario for the home team that wants to qualify for the group stage of the Champions League via Monaco and a later play-off.

With half an hour to go, Cody Gakpo also got out. Just before that, he made the 4-0 for PSV after a wonderful assist from Luuk de Jong. André Ramalho also got 30 minutes of playing time to gain further rhythm after his injury. A few minutes before the end, Savio was also allowed to make his debut.

Leader
After those changes, PSV became a bit sloppy in the back. That caused FC Emmen to attack a bit more. It led to a goal. Ole Romeny left keeper Walter Benitez without a chance in the long corner.

The lead was no longer in danger, so PSV started the Eredivisie clear. It is also a frontrunner for the time being. That does not say much after one round, but if it is up to the Eindhoven club, that place will not be given away until round 34. AS Monaco will first wait for Tuesday, then the Eindhoven team will continue the competition with an away match against Go Ahead Eagles.
