PSV has a simple afternoon and wins big from Fortuna Sittard

PSV won 5-0 against Fortuna Sittard. Despite the big win, it failed to put away an even bigger score. Due to the victory, the Eindhoven players are back in the rankings with Ajax, which beat Feyenoord earlier in the day.

According to trainer Roger Schmidt, there are never easy matches, but Fortuna Sittard was put aside with playful ease on Sunday. PSV gave the good performance of earlier this week in Copenhagen (4-0 victory) a fitting follow-up.

Within ten minutes it became clear that it was going to be an easy afternoon. It was left back Philipp Max who scored a rebound. An early lead for the Eindhoven team, who then easily controlled the home game.

It looked like it would be a very leisurely game, but luckily for the supporters, PSV went forward after half an hour with a little more urgency. It led to two goals in two minutes.

Ritsu Doan made the second Eindhoven goal. After a good combination with Eran Zahavi, who headed in the 3-0 two minutes later. The striker is in form and scored for the sixth game in a row.

Goal difference
After the break, PSV had two very big chances, via Max and Zahavi again, but they failed face to face with the Fortuna goalie. After the home side made three substitutions, Armindo Bruma, Noni Madueke and Carlos Vinicius were given 25 minutes of playing time, it was Erick Gutiérrez who headed close to 4-0. Schmidt was happy with his substitutions as both Bruma and Vinícius aimed.

The difference with leader Ajax is not only two points; PSV have to make up a difference of thirty goals in goal difference. If the number two in the Eredivisie had ever wanted to attempt to partially close this gap, a start could have been made on Sunday. But the sights were off.

spot two
The 5-0 victory equals the biggest win of the season (5-0 against Vitesse). The team enters the international break with a good feeling, after which a true apotheosis awaits. The prizes will be distributed in a few weeks.

PSV is still fighting for three prizes and will have to be top notch in April. Then it plays the cup final and the quarter finals of the Conference League. A difficult away match against FC Twente awaits in the competition. In the Eredivisie it seems to be sure of place two. PSV has a nine point lead over Feyenoord. A second place is enough at the end of the season for the preliminary round of the Champions League. Although they naturally want more in Eindhoven.
