PSV continues to win the cup after victory over FC Emmen, Luuk de Jong knows what scoring is again

PSV has qualified for the quarterfinals of the TOTO KNVB Cup. FC Emmen, which won 1-0 against the team from Eindhoven two weeks ago in the competition, was defeated 3-1 in the Philips Stadium.

Jarrad Branthwaite had a leading role in Eindhoven. The 20-year-old Englishman scored two goals in the first fifteen minutes. Luuk de Jong also scored for PSV. Mark Diemers did something in return on behalf of Emmen. With the result, PSV takes revenge for the 1-0 league defeat at low-ranked Emmen two weeks ago.

Branthwaite
Branthwaite, who only has one goal in the Eredivisie, nodded in a free kick from Joey Veerman in the 7th minute, 1-0. The defender hired from Everton doubled the lead moments later by shooting in the 2-0 with a lightly touched shot.

Despite the lead, PSV continued to hunt for more. Johan Bakayoko and Jordan Teze had shooting opportunities and in the final phase of the first half Ibrahim Sangaré and basic debutant Patrick van Aanholt were close to scoring. On the other side of the field, PSV goalkeeper Joël Drommel, the goalkeeper for the cup tournament, only saw Diemers make an attempt before the break.

Goal Luuk de Jong
In the opening phase of the second half it was again Diemers who lashed out and this time his shot flew in via the underside of the crossbar, 2-1. Although Emmen came into the game better after the goal, Drommel rarely had to act. On the instructions of substitute Thorgan Hazard, De Jong decided fifteen minutes before the end by shooting in the 3-1. This ended the striker’s goalless period. The last time De Jong scored was on November 6 against Ajax.

PSV defender Olivier Boscagli, who had recovered from an injury, made his comeback five minutes before the end after a ten-month absence.
