PSV confirms Luuk de Jong’s upcoming return | NOW

PSV confirmed the upcoming return of Luuk de Jong on Friday evening. According to the Brabant club, the 31-year-old striker was in Eindhoven on Friday and has now also been medically examined by the club.

PSV reports that negotiations with his club Sevilla have recently gained momentum. The contract talks between the clubs and De Jong are in a final phase. PSV hopes to be able to report more on Saturday.

Earlier in the evening, Sevilla already posted a message on its website in which an agreement with PSV about a transfer from De Jong was reported. That message was quickly removed, but according to various media, the transition was already complete. The transfer would involve an amount of 3 million euros.

De Jong previously played for PSV from 2014 to 2019. In that period he won three national titles with the Eindhoven team, for which he was accurate in 204 matches and 112 times. For Sevilla, the Dutchman scored nineteen times in 94 games.

De Jong still had a contract with Sevilla until next summer. The attacker has been playing for the Spanish club since mid-2019, which rented him out to FC Barcelona last season. He scored seven goals in 29 games for the Catalans.

‘Of course we want De Jong’

De Jong had been in the interest of PSV for a while. Earlier in the day, general manager Marcel Brands reported that supply and demand were still quite far apart in a transfer fee for the 38-time Orange international.

“Of course we want De Jong,” Brands said. “We do have to make the necessary considerations. The depreciation on De Jong will be high and normally there is no further residual value on him. What is responsible for us?”

Earlier this transfer period, PSV strengthened itself with Xavi Simons, Ki-Jana Hoever, Walter Benítez and Boy Waterman. Opposite this was the departure of Mario Götze and Eran Zahavi.
