Although PSV did not yet participate in the draw at UEFA on Wednesday for the first phase of the Champions League preliminary rounds, there was still a little news for the people of Eindhoven. Turkish Fenerbahce was dropped as a potential option for PSV during the first Champions League meeting for Ruud van Nistelrooij’s team next season.
Fenerbahce will meet Dynamo Kiev in the second preliminary round of the Champions League tournament and PSV cannot draw a poster with one of those teams. PSV can, however, encounter AS Monaco, Sturm Graz, Union Sint-Gillis or the winner of the game between FC Midtjylland (Denmark) and AEK Larnaca (Cyprus).
PSV enter the third preliminary round, which will be completed on August 2 and 3, with a return on August 9 or 10. The draw is on July 18. Ajax secured itself through the national championship of the group stage of the Champions League. That draw will take place on August 25 and Ajax is then in jar 1†
PSV will therefore not have to deal with the team to which Armindo Bruma will be transferred in the coming days in the third preliminary round. Fenerbahce welcomed him to Turkey on Wednesday evening, arriving in Istanbul at 11:10 PM. White smoke is expected soon from Turkey.
