Sergiño Dest misses the away match of PSV against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League on Wednesday. According to trainer Peter Bosz, his wing defender has insufficiently recovered from a slight injury. Dest is now focusing on Saturday’s league duel with PEC Zwolle.
Dest was also missing on Saturday in the away match against Excelsior. PSV played in Rotterdam with the wing defenders Mauro Júnior and Anass Salah-Eddine.
PSV has started the Champions League with a 1-3 defeat against Union Saint-Gilloise. The Eindhoven team disappointed for their own audience two weeks ago and afterwards there was a flute concert in the Philips Stadium.
Bayer Leverkusen played a draw against FC Copenhagen (2-2).
Injured
Bosz cannot rely on his attackers Ricardo Pepi, Alassane Pléa, Myron Boadu and Ruben van Bommel in Germany. The 19-year-old Robin van Duiven is the only real striker in his selection.
Guus Til and Ivan Perisic have previously played as a center attacker. “I am the trainer and I have to come up with solutions,” he said at a press conference. “Of course I prefer to play with a real striker, but it is not available now.”
Tillman
For PSV, the match with the number 6 of the Bundesliga means a reunion with Malik Tillman, who has not yet found his way at his new club. Bosz was appointed as trainer of Bayer Leverkusen at the end of 2018.
More than two years later he was fired. “This is a club where I really enjoyed myself, except for the last day. It’s never fun when you are thrown out,” he said at a press conference.
Attacker opponent also injured
Top scorer Patrik Schick ran an injury in his left thigh in the match with Sankt Pauli (1-2) and is not available for a few weeks.
Captain Robert Andrich also dropped out, but he was able to finish the last training on Tuesday. Attacker Nathan Tella has been missing for some time with a knee injury.
‘PSV has no secrets for us’
Bayer Leverkusen trainer Kasper Hjulmand thinks he knows what he can expect on Wednesday evening in the Champions League duel with PSV. With Malik Tillman, the Danish coach has a player in his selection, who was still active in Eindhoven last season. “That helps of course,” said Hjulmand during the press conference in Leverkusen. “But I know Peter Bosz and his football philosophy too.”
“It is a trainer who is very offensive,” said Hjulmand, who undoubtedly saw that opinion confirmed by Tillman. The American played football under Bosz for two years and grew into a game -determining midfielder in Eindhoven. Tillman could not distinguish itself in Leverkusen so far. The club had a bad starting start, which cost trainer Erik ten Hag’s job. “Malik is busy adapting and showing his qualities. He is a good and interesting player,” said Hjulmand.
