PSG slows down against Rennes but remains at +11. Another stop for Farioli’s Nice

A goal from Ramos is not enough for the Parisians, it ends 1-1. Fourth match without a win for the Italian coach’s Rossoneri

A final draw. This time, however, not by Mbappé, in his first as a future ex in front of his audience, and also a substitute amidst some mild whistles. It was the less glamorous Ramos who saved PSG from an unfortunate home defeat against Rennes, who took the lead with Gouiri. The Portuguese entered the second half in place of the bomber with the suitcase, who will leave as a free agent for Real Madrid in June.

the motion

Rennes, fresh from a 3-2 defeat against Milan but useless to progress to the Europa League round, presents itself at the Parc des Princes with the usual 4-4-2, albeit largely reworked by Stephan. The striker Terrier, Bourigeaud, author of the Rossoneri’s hat-trick, but also Truffert and Theate go on the bench. And in the midfield, the coach inserts the flexible and creative Doué, next to Santamaria. A move that will later pay off. While PSG confirms itself with the 4-3-3 formation even if with a modern cut, with Hakimi free to wedge himself in the midfield or overlapping Dembélé on the right. And with Mbappé as a central striker, but mobile across the entire attacking front.

advantage

The teams remain short, attentive to dribbling, closing and restarting. And the result is a tactically interesting match, even if for the first shot on goal you have to wait 20′: a play by Mbappé on the right frees Dembelé who asks Vitinha for the ball, but the Portuguese releases the diagonal shot which forces Mandanda to save himself with a dive in the corner. Rennes suffered no repercussions and took the lead in the 33rd minute. In the attacking midfield, Doué first frees Gouiri who outruns three defenders at speed, complete with a half-moon pass on Pereira, and upon entering the area, on the left, hits a right-footed shot to beat Donnarumma. Nice and deserved, beyond the Parisian possession (64%).

scene

In the second half, Asensio takes the place of the transparent Lee, but PSG just picks up the pace. There are a couple of free kicks from Hakimi, a couple of conclusions from Dembélé, and just as many from Mbappé who scares Mandanda. Not enough for Luis Enrique who after 20′ takes off the bomber jacket with the suitcase, inserting the more prosaic Ramos. A twist in Mbappé’s eternal Parisian soap opera which leaves no sign of opposition, even if he ignores the coach by taking his place on the bench. Rennes, with Bourigeaud back on the pitch, came close to doubling their lead shortly after, but the midfielder sent it wide from a comfortable position in front of goal. In the 5th minute of added time, however, Ramos dribbles and goes down, tripping over Mandanda. The VAR calls the referee who assigns the penalty. Ramos converts 52′ and also saves Donnarumma’s 25th birthday party. However, Farioli’s Nice does not celebrate as they drop off the podium, held back by Clermont (0-0) and overtaken by Monaco, who returned with three points from Lens (2-3).
