PSG secure their tenth championship title

Paris Saint-Germain has secured the French football championship for the tenth time and thus caught up with record champions AS St. Etienne. The team coached by Mauricio Pochettino can no longer be dislodged from the top of the Ligue 1 table after beating RC Lens 1-1 (0-0) in their home game on Saturday.

PSG have won the league eight times since the 2012/13 season. Last year, Neymar and Co. surprisingly had to cede the championship to OSC Lille, and in 2016/17 AS Monaco broke the capital club’s winning streak.

For superstar Lionel Messi, who switched from FC Barcelona to the Seine last summer, it is the first title in the PSG jersey. PSG will have to wait for the dream goal of winning the premier class. The star ensemble failed this year in the round of 16 at Real Madrid. In the French Cup, it was also over in the round of 16 against OGC Nice.

The Argentinian Messi scored the opening goal (68th) for the Parisians in the Prinzenpark on the assist of Neymar, who played in the majority from the 57th minute. Former Bundesliga professional Kevin Danso had seen the yellow and red card with the guests. Nevertheless, Corentin Jean (88th) scored to equalize.

Thilo Kehrer was on the bench for the hosts the entire season. National team colleague Julian Draxler was absent due to a knee injury. Four matchdays are still to come.
