Prototype Cup Germany: Perfect weekend for Besler/ Dienst

Marvin Dienst and Berkay Besler experienced a perfect weekend with a double victory at the premiere of the new Prototype Cup Germany by ADAC and the Dutch promoter Creventic.

After the triumph on Saturday in Spa in Belgium, the German-Turkish duo also won Sunday’s race in the Ligier. Jamie Winslow/Damian Ciosek from the Inter Europol Competition team were happy about second place, they also moved a league. Third place went to the Wochenspiegel Team Monschau, who brought a Duqueine to the Ardennes for Leonard Weiss and Torsten Kratz.

“Two victories on the first weekend of the Prototype Cup Germany are a perfect start to the season for us. I hope things continue like this,” said Besler from Turkey.

At the start, pole sitter Marvin Dienst successfully defended first place, Torsten Kratz came in second. Eike Angermayr (Reiter Engineering) initially lapped the track in fifth place in his Ligier, but slipped into the gravel bed on lap two and caused an interruption.

After the restart, Dienst remained in the lead until the driver change, but after the mandatory pit stop, the Toksport WRT-Ligier with Besler was in second place behind the Mühlner Motorsport-Duqueine of Matthias Lüthen and Donar Munding.

Weiss was still under pressure

However, Besler regained the lead from Lüthen and broke away from his pursuers. Behind the leading Turk, Jamie Winslow and Leonard Weiss also passed Lüthen.

Third-placed Weiss was still under pressure from Santiago Concepcion Serrano, but was able to successfully defend his position. But Concepcion, his partner Giorgio Rosa and his team Speed Factory Racing should also be happy about fourth place: Due to a gearbox problem, they had to skip both qualifying sessions on Friday and were therefore only allowed to start the race from the last starting position.

The battle for fifth place also came to a head in the final laps. Konrad’s protégé Axcil Jefferies, the only solo starter in the field, wanted to drive his frontman Sebastian von Gartzen into a mistake, but he remained highly concentrated and error-free at the wheel of the Duqueine by Racing Experience. Thus, the Luxembourg team finished fifth in front of Konrad Motorsport’s Ginetta, Lüthen finished the race for Mühlner Motorsport in seventh place.

For the Prototype Cup Germany, the third and fourth races of the season are scheduled for mid-July at the Nürburgring as part of the ADAC Truck Grand Prix.

Marvin service: “For me it was only a short race this time because of the interruption. I kept first place at the start and handed the car over to Berkay in first place. He then did a good job, so we can now celebrate a double victory. “

Berkay Besler: “After the driver change, I went back onto the track in second place, but thanks to a really good car I was able to quickly overtake the man in front.”

Damian Ciosek: “Second place is a great result for me on my first appearance in an LMP3 car. It’s even better than I would have expected. But in Jamie I have a good teacher who has a lot of experience with these cars. And also the team did a very good job; they helped me a lot so that I could constantly improve.”

Jamie Winslow: “I am very pleased that we achieved second place. The Inter Europol Competition team, my teammate Damian Ciosek and I have not been working together for long, we drove our first race together here. It was also Damian’s first LMP3 outing , after he only got into motorsport this year. I can only praise him for his performance.”

Torsten Kratz: “My start was good, I was able to gain a position straight away coming from third place on the grid. Unfortunately, after two laps the safety car came out on the track and that was quickly followed by the interruption. After the restart I was allowed to drive one more lap, and then I I hand the car over to Leonard.”

Leonard Weiss: “I’m happy with third place. Towards the end I had to look more in the rear-view mirror because Santiago Concepcion Serrano was lurking behind me. But I managed to keep him behind me despite the pressure.”
