Jorinde van Klinken delivered the promised ‘beautiful throw’ in the final of the discus throw at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, but the excellent distance of 67.20 meters did not earn her a medal.
It became fourth place, the same ‘ungrateful’ place she achieved last year at the World Cup in Eugene and the European Championship in Munich.
In her fifth attempt, the 23-year-old athlete achieved her best performance of the season, but three competitors were slightly better in the high-quality final. The American Laulauga Tausaga won the gold with a throw of 69.49 meters, her compatriot Valarie Allman took the silver with 69.23.
The Chinese Bin Feng, the world champion in Eugene a year ago, now had to make do with bronze: 68.20.
