Motorsport racing team Aston Martin is upgrading its endurance team. A prominent name has been signed for the 2025 season, who will from now on compete against Mick Schumacher for the points in the WEC.
Eduardo Barrichello will drive the Aston Martin Vantage for Racing Spirit of Leman in the LMGT3 class next season. The racing team announced this on Monday.
The 23-year-old Brazilian is the son of Formula 1 icon Rubens Barrichello, who drove in the premier class between 1993 and 2011. The two-time vice world champion was Michael Schumacher’s teammate between 2000 and 2005, and now the two sons are racing against each other in the endurance world championship. Mick Schumacher was recently confirmed by Alpine as a driver for 2025.
Eduardo Barrichello began his motorsport career as an eleven-year-old in karting, later racing in the American Formula 4 and the Formula Regional European Championship, among others. For the past two years he went back to Brazil to compete in the Stock Car Pro Series. There he won three times and came third in the championship behind Gabriel Casagrande and ex-Formula 1 driver Felipe Massa.
With the WEC, the young Barrichello is now opening a completely new chapter. His team Racing Spirit of Leman (RSL) is also new to the World Endurance Championship.
Aston Martin announces Barrichello full-bodied
In the new season, Eduardo Barrichello will drive alongside Valentin Hasse Clot and Derek DeBoer. “Senna and Lauda won world championship races for us… now we welcome Eduardo Barrichello to Vantage,” Aston Martin Racing wrote full-bodiedly about the announcement on the short message service X.
For Mick Schumacher, the coming year will be his second in the WEC. After several options for a return to Formula 1 fell through, he recently cut ties with Mercedes, where he was still employed as a reserve driver. In the future he wants to concentrate fully on the WEC – and fulfill his dream of a victory in Le Mans.
