The converted bobsleigh and toboggan run in Innsbruck-Igls continues to cause problems.
After the World Cup opener for the luge elite had to be postponed, the second skeleton race of the season planned for next Friday on the 1976 Olympic track has been canceled. The World Sled Federation IBSF announced this on Tuesday (November 25th, 2025).
Accordingly, at a meeting of athletes, a majority (30:21) voted to cancel the men’s, women’s and mixed team races. The main reason given was the inadequate preparation of the ice track, which meant that training sessions had to be canceled on Monday.
Tobogganers start in the Sauerland
The World Cup races planned for Innsbruck will take place at an alternative venue, the IBSF said. This will be announced in the coming days. After 20 months of construction and costs of almost 30 million euros, the converted bobsleigh and toboggan run in Innsbruck-Igls was initially not approved and test runs had to be canceled due to significant defects.
Due to the problems, the tobogganers moved their season start from December 5th to 7th to Winterberg in the Sauerland. On Monday, the IBSF announced that it would be possible to drive on the Olympic track for the first time after renovation and homologation.
