Double Olympic champion Remco Evenepoel has to postpone his comeback. He will therefore probably miss the first big tour of the new season.
Because be yourself “original plan” with the start of the one-day races Faun-Ardeche Classic and Faun Drome Classic at the beginning of March “smash” will subsequently be able to take part in the Giro d’Italia in May 2025 “probably too close”said Evenepoel to the Belgian daily “La Derniere Heure/Les Sports“.
Nevertheless, he has hope for a successful 2025 season: “Today I only have one thought in my head: to start at the Fleche Brabanconne on April 18th and then to compete in the three other Ardennes classics – with the aim of competing for victory there.”
The Belgian is likely to be back in the fight for the top places at the Amstel Gold Race, Fleche Wallonne and Liège-Bastogne-Liège. His biggest goal remains taking part in the Tour de France in July.
Evenepoel collided with a postal bus
At the beginning of December, Evenepoel fell in a collision with a postal bus and suffered fractures to a rib, right shoulder blade and right hand. He also suffered bruised lungs and a dislocation of his right collarbone. A necessary operation was then successful.
Now, after a computer tomography on January 9th, it will be clear when the star of the Soudal Quick-Step team will be able to train again – even if only on the roll for now.
