After a year’s break from the capital, the Pop Culture Award will take place again this year in Berlin. On June 21st, the prize will be awarded in a total of ten categories in the dome hall of the Zeiss Planetarium.

Nominated include Peaches, Grenzkontrolle, Nina Chuba, Parra for Cuva, the Berlin queer club SchwuZ, Ikkimel as well as the podcast by Jennifer Weist & Markus Kavka and many other pop culture projects. The pop culture award celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. It sees itself as a “declaration of love for creative minds and courageous ideas”. The focus is less on sales figures or hype. Instead, there is more of a need to recognize quality and persistence, social commitment and originality.

In the “Favorite Song” category, the choice of the winner will be combined with an audience vote on Instagram for the first time. Voting starts on June 8th.

Pop Culture Prize at the Planetarium during the Fête de la Musique

For the first time, the award ceremony is being held as part of the Fête de la Musique, which fills Berlin with live music every year on the longest day of the year. It is a long-standing cooperation partner of the Association for the Promotion of Pop Culture.

In addition to the awards ceremony inside the planetarium, there will once again be a (free of charge) public stage with a music program outside as part of the Fête de la Musique this year. Nadja Benaissa, 6euroneunzig and Baumgart will be there. Last but not least, the Pop Culture Prize offers the music industry the opportunity to network as an event with a pre-reception and after-show party.

The fact that the prize can also be held in the anniversary year despite current financial challenges is due not least to the support of the Zeiss Large Planetarium Berlin as well as the long-standing ticket partner Reservix and other partnerships.

In the last ten years, Annette Humpe, Beatsteaks, Berq, Betterov, Blond, Blumengarten, Casper, Danger Dan, Doro Pesch, KIZ, Moderat, Nina Chuba, No Angels, Novaa, Paula Hartmann, Peter Fox, Ski Aggu, Suena and Trettmann have been awarded the pop culture prize, among others.
