Prince Harry did not make it to his grandmother Queen Elizabeth before her death. Harry landed at Aberdeen Airport shortly after the death.

Buckingham Palace announced the Queen’s death Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m. UK time.

The Daily Mail reported that, according to flight data, Prince Harry was still in the air on the plane at the time. Harry’s plane landed at the airport 15 minutes after the Queen’s death was announced.

Later in the evening, he was on his way to join other members of the royal family to mourn the Queen’s death.

Harry headed to the Scottish manor alone without his wife, the Duchess Meghan. They were previously due to attend the WellChild Awards in London tonight, but they cancelled.

Harry was expected to make a speech on Thursday at an awards ceremony honoring brave acts by seriously ill children. The prince canceled his appearance.

The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral on Thursday afternoon, the court said. King Charles and queen consort Camilla will stay at Balmoral for the night and return to London on Friday.
