King Charles’ brother Andrew is now officially an ex-prince. The Guardian reports that Charles has officially stripped Andrew of his princely title and stripped him of his right to be addressed as ‘His Royal Highness’.
Britain’s official public database confirmed the change on Wednesday.
Andrew has also been permanently stripped of the title of Duke of York.
The former royal prince is now known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor.
Although Andrew and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson have had to give up their royal titles, their daughters Beatrice and Eugenie still retain their princess status. This may lead to awkward situations within the family.
It is court etiquette that lower-ranking persons bow or bow when meeting a higher-ranking royal. The removal of the titles means a significant reduction in value for Andrew in this regard as well.
A royal writer Robert Hardman says in the Daily Mailthat now that Andrew has been demoted from prince to commoner, he will likely have to bow to the rest of his royal family in the future, including his own daughters.
Hardman believes that Andrew is not happy about it. The ex-prince is believed to be dreading the moment when he is first named Andrew at a public event instead of the old Prince Andrew.

Hardman believes that losing the titles was a tough pill for Andrew to swallow.
– Maybe he’ll still put on his ceremonial robes in the privacy of his own home and walk around the garden, Hardman thinks.
The Court has announced that Andrew will be moved from his Royal Lodge home to live on the Sandringham lands. It is understood that Andrew’s future home will be a modest cottage with royal furnishings out of the public eye.
On October 30, Buckingham Palace announced that King Charles had begun the process of stripping Andrew of all royal titles and recognitions. Andrew had announced days earlier that he would renounce the use of his title of Duke of York.
