Prime Minister Rutte, Minister Hoekstra and Minister Ollongren to NATO summit in Madrid | news item

Prime Minister Rutte, together with Minister Hoekstra of Foreign Affairs and Minister Ollongren of Defense, will participate in the NATO summit in Madrid, which will take place from 28 to 30 June. The summit will focus on the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the global security situation and NATO’s new Strategic Concept.

On Tuesday 28 June, Prime Minister Rutte will participate in the opening dinner hosted by the Spanish King. Ministers Hoekstra and Ollongren attend a dinner hosted by the Spanish Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Defense.

On Wednesday 29 June, the Prime Minister and the ministers will jointly participate in two working sessions. The first work session focuses on the war in Ukraine. Ukrainian President Zelensky will be virtually present. The second work session, later that day, will address global security challenges.

In the evening, Prime Minister Rutte will attend an informal trans-Atlantic dinner, hosted by the Spanish Prime Minister. Minister Hoekstra and Minister Ollongren have a separate working dinner with their fellow ministers of Foreign Affairs and Defence.

On Thursday 30 June, the Prime Minister and the ministers will jointly participate in the third and final working session, which will discuss, among other things, threats emanating from areas south of NATO.

Several NATO partners will join the working sessions, such as Ukraine, Georgia, Finland, Sweden, partners in the Indo-Pacific and the EU.

And margin from the summit, the ministers have several meetings with fellow government leaders and ministers.
