Prime Minister Mark Rutte: ‘Cabinet busy with nothing but Ter Apel’

The cabinet is currently “occupied with nothing else” than the “terrible situation” in Ter Apel. That said Prime Minister Mark Rutte on Thursday upon arrival at the Ministry of Finance.

There the budget consultations will resume between the top of the cabinet and the group leaders of the four coalition groups.

In Ter Apel, seven hundred asylum seekers have slept outside in recent nights. A three-month-old baby died on Wednesday and an asylum seeker was taken to a hospital due to a heart attack on Thursday. Another man was also rushed to hospital. He has diabetes, but was not on insulin for months.

This was done by employees of Doctors Without Borders (AzG), who have been providing medical and psychological care to asylum seekers outside the gate of the application center in Ter Apel since Thursday. It is the first time that MSF has provided medical assistance in the Netherlands.
