The 2025/26 biathlon season is looming. For the two-time Olympic champion Hanna Öberg, the preparation was anything but ideal.
Back in the spring, Hanna Öberg had to miss a high-altitude training camp in Italy due to illness. “That seemed to me to be the right decision,” the Swedish ski hunter explained to “Expressen”.
“I was sick several times throughout April, and then it continued. It wasn’t until the end of May/beginning of June that I was able to really start training again,” said Hanna Öberg.
The three-time biathlon world champion was then able to work normally in the summer. However, the next setback followed at the beginning of September. Hanna Öberg also had to cancel the altitude training camp in France due to illness.
The two-time Olympic champion therefore had to skip the biathlon test run in Östersund, Sweden, last weekend.
“It was definitely a bit of chaos this fall,” said Hanna Öberg. It’s “always frustrating when you can’t stick to the plan,” said the 29-year-old regarding her preparation for the season.
Biathlon star sees improvements in prone shooting
Hanna Öberg was also able to gain something positive from the summer. Working with shooting coach Jean-Marc Chabloz was “very good”.
“And that’s where I feel like I’ve built up more confidence. That’s something I want to continue working on in the winter. I would say that we found important keys, especially in prone shooting. And I think that will definitely lead to results,” she revealed.
Chabloz also recently expressed his satisfaction. “She was… I think she’s the best Hanna I’ve ever seen in a preseason,” the biathlon coach told “SVT”.
The World Cup season starts on November 29th in Östersund.
