On Friday, March 21, the cabinet will hold a top about labor market shortage. In the Netherlands there are 108 vacancies for every 100 job seekers. So there are structurally too few people to do all the work. The expectation is that this will remain the case, for example, the report from the State Committee for Demographic Development 2050.
At the top, Minister Eddy van Hijum of Social Affairs and Employment, Minister Dirk Beljaarts of Economic Affairs, Minister Fleur Agema of Health, Welfare and Sport, Minister Eppo Bruins of Education, Culture and Science and State Secretary Mariëlle Paul of Fundend Education and Emancipation about how the Netherlands deals with this.
The top is opened at 10 a.m. by Minister Eddy Van Hijum. Then Marieke Blom, the chief economist at ING, gives a keynote speech. She will indicate the shortage on our labor market and make the connection to conversations about productivity and about choices what we do in our economy and public sector. The ministers present then contribute to the panel discussions. Then those present continue in interactive sub -sessions.
Minister Eddy van Hijum: “The shortage of staff undermines the quality of public services and the earning capacity of the Netherlands. We have to face that there are no simple solutions. To maintain our prosperity, employers must perform more with fewer people in almost all sectors. Our labor productivity has to go up and more hours of hours must become more attractive. And we have to do everything we can to offer people who are still unemployed on the side to participate. I will discuss the adjustments that this requires this top with all those present. ”
