“Elvis,” the long-planned biopic about the King, is slated for a screening at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival.

With no program for the competition and side sections announced yet, things are not quite settled yet. The 75th Cannes Film Festival takes place from May 17th to 28th.

It is already known that in the film by Baz Luhrmann (“Moulin Rouge”, “The Great Gatsby”) Austin Butler (known from Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”) as Elvis Presley and Tom Hanks as his discoverer and patron “Colonel” Tom Parker is said to be featured.

“Elvis” and Corona

Baz Luhrmann has retired from the big screen spotlight for a few years. His interpretation of the musician’s early years should attract attention, especially since the director has inspired audiences with sensational music scenes in the past.

“Elvis” has a certain corona history, as Tom Hanks contracted the novel corona virus during filming in Australia (as one of the first known cases of an infected celebrity), after which filming was halted for the time being.

In case you’re wondering, the first trailer impressively demonstrates that Butler’s King can be brought to screen with great intensity. “Elvis” will hit theaters worldwide on June 24th.
