The Swiss sporting goods provider on Holding AG celebrated a future -oriented step last Wednesday. In Zurich, the company inaugurated its first production facility in which the self-developed “Light spray” technology is used.

The new process, which had been presented after several years of development last summer, is “a revolutionary technology for the production of performance upper materials, which are produced in a one-step, fully automatic production process with the help of robots,” explained the sports shoe specialist in a message.

According to the company, the innovation offers considerable efficiency advantages. “While the conventional production comprises around 200 steps and various locations (from yarn production to assembly), Light spray with a robot arm and a 1.5 km long filament produces an ultra -light, one -piece shoe top in just three minutes,” explained on. The process saves “space and time”, minimize the waste and reduce “the CO2 emissions of the upper material compared to other on-running shoes by 75 percent,” says a message.

The opening of the first production facility in Zurich is “an important step in the further scaling of the technology,” emphasized the company. Further global “Light spray” locations are already being planned.

Caspar Coppetti, one of the founders of On, emphasized the scope of the premiere now: “We are incredibly proud of this important milestone in the history of on and light spray,” he said in a statement. “Innovations like this, developed and perfected by our teams in Zurich, helped us to go to global success right from the start. Light spray is the sample example for the products that make up: Innovation – from Switzerland, for the world.”
