Premier League | Tottenham Hotspur makes a mistake

Tottenham Hotspur dropped important points in the race for the Champions League places in the English Premier League.

On Saturday, with Timo Werner in the starting line-up, the Londoners only managed a 2-2 (1-1) draw against relegation-threatened Everton FC despite leading twice and thus lost fourth place. Aston Villa took over this after the furious 5-0 (4-0) at bottom team Sheffield United.

The Brazilian Richarlison gave Tottenham the lead twice against his former club with a brace (4th/41st). Werner initiated both goals with the penultimate pass, and the national player was substituted after 86 minutes. Dominic Calvert-Lewin equalized after half an hour. In the final phase, the Toffees’ pressure increased and Jarrad Branthwaite (90+4) equalized deep into stoppage time. Everton still remains 18th.

Villa got off to an impressive start at Bramall Lane. John McGinn (12th), Ollie Watkins (16th) and former Leverkusen player Leon Bailey (20th) took a 3-0 lead within eight minutes, Youri Tielemans increased ten minutes later. Alex Moreno (47th) brought the final point.

Newcastle United and newly promoted Luton Town had a real exchange of blows. The hard-fought encounter ended 4:4 (2:2), after the guests initially turned two deficits into a 4:2 lead. But the Magpies equalized.
