Manchester (AP) – Amidst speculation about a commitment as Austria’s national football coach, Ralf Rangnick has denied an early departure from Manchester United.

“What I can say and confirm is that I will definitely continue my advisory role after the season and for the next two years,” said the coach of the English record champions on Sky Sports. The 63-year-old will be the Man United coach until the end of the season, after which Dutchman Erik ten Hag will take over.

The Austrian newspaper “Kurier” had reported that Rangnick is the favorite to become the Austrian team manager. Accordingly, association president Gerhard Milletich wants to obtain a vote for Rangnick’s commitment in the presidium on Friday. It is conceivable that Rangnick will take on the job in addition to his advisory role at United.

Rangnick assured him after the 1-1 draw at Chelsea in the Premier League on Thursday evening that he is looking forward to his next assignment in Manchester. “Erik and I haven’t spoken to each other yet. But I spoke to the board about the contract and the job profile, the content of the consultant role,” said Rangnick. Therefore, he will continue in office after the season.

Rangnick’s advisor Martin Hägele had told the German Press Agency that, as always, he would not take part in speculation. In this context, he also referred to a report by the “Kurier”, according to which Rangnick should have met with ÖFB sports director Peter Schöttel at the beginning of the month. The association itself denied this.
