Premier League: Liverpool with derby victory

Liverpool / London (AP) – Liverpool FC remains leaders Manchester City in the English Premier League very close on their heels.

Coach Jürgen Klopp’s team won the city derby 2-0 (0-0) against Everton, who were in danger of being relegated. Andy Robertson (62nd minute) and former Wolfsburg Divock Origi (85th) scored for the Reds at Anfield.

The hosts were playfully superior from the start, but struggled against their defensively oriented neighbors for a long time. There were hardly any chances in the first half. After the home win, Liverpool, in second place, are still just a point behind defending champions City with five games left in the season. Everton coached by Frank Lampard slipped to a relegation zone.

Last minute victory for Chelsea

Previously, coach Thomas Tuchel had won a last-minute victory with Chelsea in the race for a place in the Champions League. The Londoners struggled at home with a majority to a 1-0 (0-0) against local rivals West Ham United, semi-final opponents of Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League.

Substitute ex-Dortmunder Christian Pulisic made Tuchel and his team celebrate at home in Stamford Bridge in the 90th minute. A few minutes earlier, Romelu Lukaku had been knocked down by Craig Dawson in the penalty area. Dawson saw the red card, but Jorginho missed the penalty with a far too lax shot.

Chelsea, with the two German internationals Kai Havertz and Timo Werner in attack, had more of the game in the game with few scoring chances, but only became dangerous in the final phase. Defender Antonio Rüdiger, who faces a change in the summer, was absent from the Chelsea squad through injury.

In the Premier League table, the Blues consolidate third place with 65 points. Chelsea are five points clear of fourth-placed Arsenal and have played a game fewer. Frankfurt opponents West Ham only have arithmetical chances of qualifying for the Champions League via the table.
