Pozzecco expelled: Italy-Dominican Republic, what happened

The blue coach kicked out in the second quarter of the match against the Dominican Republic after contact between Ricci and Towns. Casalone is now on the bench

From our correspondent Davide Romani

Pozzecco sent off in the second quarter of Italy’s match against the Dominican Republic at the World Cup in Manila. It all happens between the first two quarters of the game. After a splendid blue start (12-0), some booing made the blue bench nervous and they took their first technical foul 2’40” from the end of the first quarter. However, Italy seems to be in control of the match up to 49” from the first siren: here it is Pozzecco who takes the “big T” from the referees.

Like in Berlin

The second quarter begins, the Dominican continues to be very aggressive in defense, the complaints continue from the blue bench and when the blue coach after a contact between the Timberwolves Towns star and Ricci (it seems like a clear breakthrough, the referees call the blue a foul ) takes off his jacket and tie the third technical foul arrives, the second for him, which costs him the expulsion. The same episode already seen against Serbia in Berlin at the 2022 European Championship: then as now, the assistant coach Casalone stood up to lead the team… Success came in Berlin.
