Recommendations of the Editorial team

Bruce Springsteen, Foo Fighters, Joan Baez and other artists and activists are part of the top-class lineup at Tom Morello’s Power to the People Festival. The one-day event will take place on October 3rd at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland.

Morello announced the festival during his tour with Springsteen – at their joint performance at Nationals Park last evening.

Curated by Morello, who also performs himself, the lineup also includes Dave Matthews, Brittany Howard, Dropkick Murphys, Jack Black (feat. Roman Morello, Revel Ian, Yoyoka Soma and Hugo Weiss), Serj Tankian, Cypress Hill, Killer Mike, grandson, Taylor Momsen, Matt Cameron and the Linda Lindas – plus artwork and a DJ set by Shepard Fairey. Pre-sales begin Friday, May 29th at 10 a.m. ET – register here – and regular sales begin Saturday, May 30, also at 10 a.m. ET. Further information, including registration for the presale, is available on the official Power to the People Festival website.

Two stages, one goal

According to a press release, the festival will feature “intimate, collaborative and special performances” across two stages. Nonprofit organizations, advocacy groups and other groups are represented in the so-called Freedom Village – an area dedicated to civic engagement, grassroots organizing, education, mutual aid and social initiatives. A portion of the proceeds from all ticket sales and 100 percent of the net proceeds from VIP tickets will benefit VoteRiders – a pro-democracy voting rights organization – and HeadCount, which supports festival-goers on site with voter registration.

“The Power to the People Festival stands for freedom, justice, equality and rock & roll,” Morello said in a statement. “It’s about the power that everyday people unleash when they come together through music, art, community and action. We’re proud to bring this incredible lineup to the DC area for a day that celebrates the spirit of activism, creativity and hope.”
