Ireland defeated Portugal 2-0 at home in the 5th match of Group F of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Troy Parrott scored the goals that brought victory to the home team in the 17th and 45th minutes.

Portugal’s star Cristiano Ronaldo received a red card in the 61st minute of the match, leaving his team with 10 men. This was the first red card Ronaldo received in his national team career.
With this match, Ireland increased its points to 7 and increased its hopes of qualifying for the World Cup before the last matches in its group. Portugal, on the other hand, remained at 10 points and the possibility of directly qualifying for the World Cup was left to the last match.
In the 6th match of Group F, Ireland will host Hungary away. Portugal will host Armenia at home.
