Port of Ostend records best figure in 15 years

Expressed in weight, 5.7 percent less cargo was handled, but the port attributes this to 2020, when the parts for the Seamade Windmill Park were shipped at sea from Ostend. In financial terms, the Port of Ostend is making a profit of more than one million euros, the best figure in 15 years.

More traffic

In the coming period, the Port of Ostend wants to focus on increasing traffic, while also modernizing the infrastructure in the port at the same time. In any case, the port will remain an important operating base for offshore wind farms.

“We will continue to promote the port as one of the four important Flemish sea ports,” says chair Charlotte Verkeyn. “According to the National Bank, Port of Ostend directly and indirectly employs almost 10,000 people. By attracting new traffic, we want to see that number increase.”
