Porn, Nazi accusations – Rammstein is remembered for these uproars

Raised cover photos

Herzelei’s (1995) on the cover, the shirtless band members pose in front of an enlarged flower bud. Some German media interpreted the cover as a reference to the Nazi-era organization Kraft durch Freude (Finnish: “Power from joy”).

The band’s guitarist Richard Kruspe has later said that the picture is just bad, and rather resembles an “ad for a gay porn video”.

Nazi accusations

The band has also directly flirted with material related to the Nazis. In 1998 Stripped– music video used material from the 1936 Olympics, which was organized by Nazi Germany.

There was also a big stir in 2019, when Rammstein released their first new song in almost ten years. Deutschland– music video is like a short film, and it retells the history of Germany from the witch hunts to the fall of the Berlin Wall.

A dark-skinned woman was chosen as the embodiment of Germany, which caused outrage in certain circles. In addition to that, the group played the roles of both Nazis and Jewish victims of the Holocaust.

A contradiction is also heard Till Lindemann’s in the lyrics: i want to love and judge you. The group has strongly denied the alleged Nazi sympathies on many occasions. Handling the catalog and topics does not automatically mean supporting something.

Porn video

Shocking with sex is no stranger to Rammstein. In 2009, the band released an album Liebe ist für alle dawhose debut single Pussy contained not only straightforward lyrics but also a music video that caused a stir.

The premiere of the short film-like music video was seen on the Visit-X porn website. It was marketed with the idea that Rammstein has made porn for the first time. The video shows how the band members have sex with real porn stars.

Even today, the music video raises questions. Were the Pornotähdet also fucking the members of Rammstein, as they say, or did the members of the band really have sex.

The album fell under the grip of censorship in Germany due to the violently sexually tinged words and imagery. A song referring to BDSM sex Ich tu dir wehin it was also banned, but the curtain of censorship was lifted in the spring of 2010.

Rammstein shook their conservative fans in 2019 when the drummer Christian Schneider waved the rainbow flag on tour. The band’s guitarists Kruspe and Paul Landers kissed each other during a concert in Russia. The actions were brave because Russia has strict laws against homosexual imagery.
