In 2016, the last edition of the Popweekend took place in Alkmaar, on the platform bridge. “Through new hospitality owners it was no longer possible,” says organizer Naomi Breed. “Then it was moved to live on the square in Bergen. But the Coronapandemie has stopped completely.”
Naomi and co-organizer Jeffrey wanted to change that. “We breathe new life into Alkmaar. The old organizer Gerrit has taken a big step back, and we are now taking over. We want to tackle it big, or rather: we are tackling it big.”
Two events
That appears: the pop weekend is reflected in Alkmaar with two events. The first, called the Kick-Off, takes place on March 22 in the Stadsfabriek. “It’s a kind of preliminary round,” says Naomi. At that event, the public and the organization choose the regional bands that may be on the small stage of the big event. “And one of the bands can go to the main stage of the event on the Canadaplein.”
