“This is purely a financial decision against a background of challenges in the world of Leave Shows. It is in no way related to the performance, content or other things that play at Paramount,” said CBS managers in a statement. Paramount is the parent company of CBS.
Earlier this month, Paramount reached a settlement in a lawsuit that President Donald Trump had filed about an interview with former vice president Kamala Harris, his democratic challenger in the 2024 presidential election, that the CBS program 60 Minutes broadcast in October.
Colbert, a frequent critic of Trump in his show, told his audience on Thursday that he was informed of the cancellation of the show the night before.
