Polite Belgian Sebbe Augustijns opts for more playing time with Telstar

Sebbe Augustijns was on the field at Telstar for the first time today. The 23-year-old midfielder comes over from RKC on a transfer-free basis. “A very nice group with all social and good footballers.”

In his youth, Augustijns played for various clubs in Belgium and in the summer of 2019 he made the move to RKC. His league debut for the Waalwijkers took a while. At the beginning of January 2021 he came in against sc Heerenveen. “That is a dream for every footballer”, Augustijns looks back on that special moment. “It’s just a pity that the playing minutes were a bit short.”

“Playtime”

After his debut, the extremely polite Belgian got no further than one basic place and some raids. After four seasons of RKC, the counter stood at 22 matches. There is absolutely no rancour at Augustijns. “I closed the door there with a good feeling. I started at Jong RKC and worked my way up to the first. Made my debut.” Playing time is therefore the most important reason for Augustijns to choose Telstar.

At Telstar, Augustijns is seen as Anass Najah’s replacement. The midfielder was one of the strongholds in Velsen-Zuid last year. “I heard that too,” said the new White Lion. “Taking the ball away is one of my strong points.” Where Najah will continue his career is still unclear, he has informed the club that he wants to take a new step.

“Wedding Party”

In recent years, quite a few Belgian football players have been on the field at Telstar. Including Senne Lynen and Anthony Swolfs. “Three weeks ago I happened to see Senne and Anthony at a wedding party. I did ask them about their experiences there.”

The first practice matches of the season are scheduled for Saturday. In a triptych, Telstar plays for its own audience against the amateurs of Stormvogels and VV IJmuiden.
