Policy Support Center expands after West Flemish year

Our province has had an online support center about administration for a year now. Partly due to the increase in dementia, 11,000 people in our province alone are no longer able to arrange their own affairs properly. And then an administrator, usually a family member or a lawyer, assists them.

Physical Welfare Desk

The West Flemish support center was a unique pilot project in Flanders. In one year there were 155 reports, but abuses were not raised. The online support point does not seem to be known enough yet. In order to lower the threshold to legal assistance even further, there is now also a welfare counter in the courthouse in Bruges every Monday and Wednesday morning. There is not only a lawyer at the welfare counter, but also a social worker from the CAW. You can go there with all kinds of problems. One in three that the Center wants to reach comes from the healthcare sector, especially in the central cities.

Expansion

The welfare reception, on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., is a collaboration between CAW Noord-West-Vlaanderen, Balie West-Vlaanderen, and the courts and public prosecutors’ offices in the Bruges courthouse.

With a symbolic push of a button, the project is now also expanding: from now on, the support center is also active in the districts of East Flanders, Leuven and Antwerp.
