Police investigate burglary wave at beach tents Egmond and Castricum

At several beach bars in Egmond and Castricum, burglaries were committed during the night hours this month. In all cases, the perpetrator(s) ran off with money and left behind damage. Police are investigating a link between the break-ins.

The police are not yet providing details about which beach pavilions are involved. More information about this may be announced later. The police does give an indication when the burglars struck and asks beachgoers to be alert.

Egmond aan Zee

The first burglary in the series was at the beginning of August in a pavilion in Egmond aan Zee: between Monday, August 1, at 11 p.m. and Wednesday, August 3 at 10:15 a.m.

Then the following week, on August 8 between 3.30 and 4.30 am, another pavilion in Egmond aan Zee was broken into. In the same case, a few hours later, around 6:00 am, one or more burglars struck again.

Castricum by the Sea

Finally, on Sunday 14 August, a pavilion on the beach of Castricum was broken into between 02:45 and 08:45. In all cases, according to the police, it seems that the burglars were looking for the proceeds of good beach days.

With each robbery, the perpetrator(s) made off with an unknown loot and damaged the catering establishments.

Last month people targeted still major damage at the rescue brigade in Bergen aan Zee. Binoculars worth thousands of euros were taken and a lot was also destroyed. “The AED was pulled from the wall, the fire extinguisher too, the computer was demolished and a first aid kit was taken,” said the injured day commander at the time.
