Police find third body under rubble in South Rotterdam

Forensic police detectives found a third body on Friday morning at the site where an explosion took place in South Rotterdam on Monday. That reports the Rotterdam police. That brings the total death toll from the explosion, in which three people were missing, to three. The first body was found on Wednesday and the second body on Thursday evening.

The body, which was found around 5:30 a.m. under the rubble of the destroyed building, is believed to be that of the third person to have gone missing since Monday. Police say forensic investigators will conduct further investigations later this morning. According to RTV Rijnmond, it’s about the body of a 33 year old man.

Due to the risk of collapse, the police were unable to enter the apartment complex in South Rotterdam for a long time, so a search for the missing people could only be launched on Thursday. The explosion and subsequent fire on Monday evening took place in the garage of the apartment complex and caused great havoc in Schammenkamp street. Nothing is yet known about the cause of the explosion.
