Police end massive brawl at ENCI quarry Maastricht: all six injured back home | Interior

Six people were injured in a brawl in the ENCI quarry near Maastricht on Saturday evening. They suffered stab wounds, police said. The six were taken to hospital for treatment. The police have arrested three people.

All six victims have since left the hospital, the Limburg police said on Twitter. Two of them initially seemed seriously injured, but they also returned home.

The emergency services raised the alarm. The police and military police came to the scene with more than ten patrol cars. Several ambulances and a trauma helicopter were also deployed. All those present were checked by the police for their ID. Police also searched several cars.

Three persons have been arrested. They are suspected of public violence and attempted murder. They are being held and are being questioned, the police reported on Twitter around 11 p.m. “The investigation on the site where the stabbing incident took place has been completed.”

According to a police spokeswoman, there is a total of 20 to 25 people who got into a fight around 7 p.m. It is not yet known what that group was doing there and what preceded the brawl. Around 9 p.m., the police had started questioning the group, which was still in the nature reserve at the time.

To give evidence

Police are looking for people who may have captured images of what happened before the stabbing. “Walkers may have seen how a larger group gathered in the course of the afternoon,” said the spokeswoman.

The ENCI quarry used to be a limestone quarry of about 150 hectares, where marl for the cement industry was extracted. The quarry has been closed since 2018. The area is popular with walkers. The access route to the quarry has now been blocked off by the police.
