On Sunday evening, the German police were on site with a large number of agents at the border crossing on the Rütenbrockerweg, at the border between Ter Apel and Rütenbrock. The reason for the police deployment was the announcement that citizens would again set up a ‘border control’.
For the second evening in a row, Burgers had gathered at the border between Ter Apel and the German Rütenbrock. Just like Saturday evening, the activists had announced ‘border controls’, but in the end no cars were checked. There was, however, a good number of German and Dutch agents to prevent the situation from getting out of hand. They were on both sides of the border on Rütenbrockerweg with police cars. The Dutch agents have carried out an ID check with all citizens present.
A spokesperson for the municipality of Westerwolde said yesterday in a response that the action is life -threatening and that it is forbidden for citizens to maintain cars in this way. According to the spokesperson, there is understanding for the frustration that evokes the state of affairs regarding asylum shelter, but the inhabitants of Ter Apel are not waiting for this. The municipality therefore calls on not to continue with these types of actions.
