Police clear illegal rave with 3,500 revelers in northern Italy | Abroad

In the northern Italian city of Modena, some 300 police officers cleared an illegal rave Monday morning, where about 3,500 techno fans have been celebrating Halloween in an empty factory building since Saturday.

According to the organizers, the rave would normally last until Tuesday. But the agents were able to convince the revelers to stop the event and also recorded the data of hundreds of people. According to the Italian ‘La Republica’, the police said the building was “unsafe” for them.

Although some people would have barricaded themselves inside at the start of the evacuation, the eviction was peaceful. Live images showed the revelers removing technical equipment from the building and breaking down tents.

Over the weekend, the rave caused a stir in the new right-wing government. Matteo Piantedosi, Minister of the Interior, therefore ordered the police to evacuate the illegal party.

In Italy, large raves often make the news. The right-wing ruling parties want to put a stop to the celebrations and plan to discuss new measures in the Council of Ministers on Monday.

Matteo Salvini, party leader of the extreme right-wing Lega and Minister of Transport, expressed his satisfaction on Twitter about the termination of this rave. “The fun is over,” he tweeted.
