Hosts Poland and defending champions France are the first teams to reach the main round of the European Handball Championship. Poland, third in the World Cup, celebrated on Sunday in front of 15,000 spectators in Kraków with a 24:23 (11:13) win over Macedonia, as well as their second win in group A of the preliminary round, as did France with a 36:26 (19:16) win against Serbia. In the match, led by German referees Lars Geipel and Marcus Helbig, Kamil Syprzak scored six goals for Poland and Kiril Lazarov eight for Macedonia.
